It was his dad. [ She gives Freya a look, one that clearly says You know how Lucifer feels about his dad. ] His brother, really, but under his dad's, uh, command. Whatever. My mom couldn't get pregnant. Amenadiel made sure that should could, with me. This has all been a set up from the start.

[Her head tips to the side, brow furrowing in confusion.]

How is it a set up? So creating you took a little angelic elbow grease - what does that have to do with Lucifer?

So it just so happens that the baby Amenadiel created coincidentally meets the devil 35 years later and coincidentally is the only one that can make him vulnerable? This was planned. [ She makes a frustrated noise. ] He called me a miracle, Freya. His dad put me here to get in his way and he... He won't admit it but I know part of him hates me for it.

[She holds up her hands because this has the self-obsessed hallmarks of Lucifer all over it and they need to breathe for a moment.]

I'm not one to put much credence in coincidences either, but has Lucifer ever met another proverbial miracle?

I'm pretty sure if he had, he would have mentioned it.

[ Chloe doesn't want to be a proverbial miracle. She just wants to go back home to being a normal mom in a normal job doing normal things and avoiding Lucifer's nonsensical drama. She never wanted any of this. ]

You know how he is. Even if they weren't related, the only thing that matters to Lucifer is his perception of what's going on around him, and he's convinced that his father put me directly in his path.

Well, that's idiotic.

[She's just saying, only because Lucifer isn't here to be offended.]

Without having met another miracle, he can't be sure that this vulnerability isn't just a byproduct of your divinity interacting with his own. Do you have the same effect on Amenadiel?

Well, that's Lucifer.

[ He is idiotic, even if Chloe is more likely to side with him on this specific issue. ]

I... I don't think so. I don't think we've ever been in a situation where we would have been able to test it. He shot himself once in front of me but he was wearing a vest, it didn't even phase him, though. [ She tilts her head thoughtfully. ] You really think Lucifer might be wrong about this?

I think we don't have enough information, and that Lucifer is prone to hysterics at times, as much as I adore him.

[He and Klaus were very similar in that things were very often all about them. In some instances, their paranoia is well founded, but in others, it seems like they're paranoid simply for the sake of being paranoid.]

Now, I don't know much about the divine, but it's possible that there's a reasonable explanation for this.

That's one way of putting it.

[ She does manage to crack a smile, though. ]

I don't know, Freya... Normally I'd be the one looking for something reasonable but... He's the Devil. I'm not sure we're in the same orbit as reasonable anymore.

The supernatural may be more than you're used to, but it still has rules. Things have to work a certain way to keep a very tentative balance.

[She pours them both another glass before she lifts hers, studying Chloe with a bit more scrutiny than she has in the past, more like a puzzle she needs to solve.]

We just have to figure out what the rules are for you. Then we can determine if this is divine manipulation or simply one form of divinity interacting with another.

[ Chloe shifts under Freya's gaze, feeling a little put on the spot. ]

If you have any ideas, I'm all for it. I wouldn't even know where to start making sense of all of this. I mean, I didn't even know about any of this back home.

[She nods once, before she relaxes and resumes her normal posture.]

Let me do some research and see. It may be a hard theory to prove without another angel from you universe here to test it on, but ... anything is possible.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Amenadiel will show up.

[ Preferably him and not Uriel... ]

Speaking of which, there is something else. Lucifer seemed convinced that his father sent another one of his brothers to kill me.

[Her eyebrows raise.]

That doesn't sound very God-like.

That's the problem I'm having with it. [ She shakes her head. This whole thing is giving her a headache. ] Why would his father want a hand in making me, send me to be in Lucifer's life, and then want to have me killed when Lucifer started to have feelings for me? He said it has to do with a deal he made to protect me, that he let down his end and his father decided to take me out to get even but... It just doesn't add up. Why go through all that trouble to bring me into the world so He could wipe me out the minute Lucifer is... [ She waves her hand in the air. ] You know, Lucifer.

[She gives a small shrug.]

I am curious how many conversations Lucifer has had with his father. Have you ever met him, perhaps in another form?

No, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure Lucifer would have made it pretty obvious if I had.

[ He didn't exactly keep most things quiet, even if Chloe had learned to ignore his stranger statements. Now, she wishes she'd payed better attention. ]

There was... This one woman, though. A lawyer. She showed up a few weeks before I got here, and he would act really strange around her. I mean, she was pretty scary, and at first I thought they had slept together but he kept denying it, which was pretty weird for him, too.

[ Chloe had almost forgotten about Charlotte Richards and how obnoxiously she had inserted herself in their lives. It didn't occur to her to ask more about it now that Lucifer would know who she was. ]

Maybe she was family then. Someone else we could ... look forward to at Wonderland's whimsy.

[Not that she understands all the twists and turns.]

[ Oh shit.

Chloe pulls out her phone without skipping a beat, punching in a text to Lucifer, her brow furrowed when she looks back at Freya. The missing piece that bridged two separate conversation she'd had with Lucifer months apart had fallen into place. ]

I know exactly who it was.

[Her eyebrows go up a bit, before she leans forward to peer at the screen, even if she can't really see it.]

You do?

[ Chloe drops the phone onto the counter top, pressing her lips together. It's a little difficult to tell if she's just upset or absolutely pissed off. ]

Yeah. She's his mother.

[ The original helicopter parent. ]

Oh.

[She pauses as she goes to pour them both fresh drinks.]

I'm sure that was ... interesting.

Yeah, real interesting. She tried to turn us against each other and then helped keep my dad's murderer out of jail.

[ She shakes her head and reaches for the drink. ]

Back home he told me his mother was out to get him. I just didn't have what I needed to put it together until now.

[Her lips press into a thin line.]

Yes, well. A meddling mother is often her own children's worst enemy.

Well, this meddling mother is supposed to be in Hell. I didn't get the whole story but I guess she got out somehow.

[ She shakes her head. ]

I have no idea how to deal with any of this. I know it's real but it still doesn't feel like it is.
