Well, that's Lucifer.

[ He is idiotic, even if Chloe is more likely to side with him on this specific issue. ]

I... I don't think so. I don't think we've ever been in a situation where we would have been able to test it. He shot himself once in front of me but he was wearing a vest, it didn't even phase him, though. [ She tilts her head thoughtfully. ] You really think Lucifer might be wrong about this?

I think we don't have enough information, and that Lucifer is prone to hysterics at times, as much as I adore him.

[He and Klaus were very similar in that things were very often all about them. In some instances, their paranoia is well founded, but in others, it seems like they're paranoid simply for the sake of being paranoid.]

Now, I don't know much about the divine, but it's possible that there's a reasonable explanation for this.

[ She does manage to crack a smile, though. ]

I don't know, Freya... Normally I'd be the one looking for something reasonable but... He's the Devil. I'm not sure we're in the same orbit as reasonable anymore.

The supernatural may be more than you're used to, but it still has rules. Things have to work a certain way to keep a very tentative balance.

[She pours them both another glass before she lifts hers, studying Chloe with a bit more scrutiny than she has in the past, more like a puzzle she needs to solve.]

We just have to figure out what the rules are for you. Then we can determine if this is divine manipulation or simply one form of divinity interacting with another.

[ Chloe shifts under Freya's gaze, feeling a little put on the spot. ]

If you have any ideas, I'm all for it. I wouldn't even know where to start making sense of all of this. I mean, I didn't even know about any of this back home.

[She nods once, before she relaxes and resumes her normal posture.]

Let me do some research and see. It may be a hard theory to prove without another angel from you universe here to test it on, but ... anything is possible.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Amenadiel will show up.

[ Preferably him and not Uriel... ]

Speaking of which, there is something else. Lucifer seemed convinced that his father sent another one of his brothers to kill me.

[Her eyebrows raise.]

That doesn't sound very God-like.

That's the problem I'm having with it. [ She shakes her head. This whole thing is giving her a headache. ] Why would his father want a hand in making me, send me to be in Lucifer's life, and then want to have me killed when Lucifer started to have feelings for me? He said it has to do with a deal he made to protect me, that he let down his end and his father decided to take me out to get even but... It just doesn't add up. Why go through all that trouble to bring me into the world so He could wipe me out the minute Lucifer is... [ She waves her hand in the air. ] You know, Lucifer.

[She gives a small shrug.]

I am curious how many conversations Lucifer has had with his father. Have you ever met him, perhaps in another form?

No, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure Lucifer would have made it pretty obvious if I had.

[ He didn't exactly keep most things quiet, even if Chloe had learned to ignore his stranger statements. Now, she wishes she'd payed better attention. ]

There was... This one woman, though. A lawyer. She showed up a few weeks before I got here, and he would act really strange around her. I mean, she was pretty scary, and at first I thought they had slept together but he kept denying it, which was pretty weird for him, too.

[ Chloe had almost forgotten about Charlotte Richards and how obnoxiously she had inserted herself in their lives. It didn't occur to her to ask more about it now that Lucifer would know who she was. ]

Maybe she was family then. Someone else we could ... look forward to at Wonderland's whimsy.

[Not that she understands all the twists and turns.]

[ Oh shit.

Chloe pulls out her phone without skipping a beat, punching in a text to Lucifer, her brow furrowed when she looks back at Freya. The missing piece that bridged two separate conversation she'd had with Lucifer months apart had fallen into place. ]

I know exactly who it was.

[Her eyebrows go up a bit, before she leans forward to peer at the screen, even if she can't really see it.]

You do?

[ Chloe drops the phone onto the counter top, pressing her lips together. It's a little difficult to tell if she's just upset or absolutely pissed off. ]

Yeah. She's his mother.

[ The original helicopter parent. ]

Oh.

[She pauses as she goes to pour them both fresh drinks.]

I'm sure that was ... interesting.

Yeah, real interesting. She tried to turn us against each other and then helped keep my dad's murderer out of jail.

[ She shakes her head and reaches for the drink. ]

Back home he told me his mother was out to get him. I just didn't have what I needed to put it together until now.

[Her lips press into a thin line.]

Yes, well. A meddling mother is often her own children's worst enemy.

Well, this meddling mother is supposed to be in Hell. I didn't get the whole story but I guess she got out somehow.

[ She shakes her head. ]

I have no idea how to deal with any of this. I know it's real but it still doesn't feel like it is.

You're allowed to take some time to digest things. You don't need to have a solution right at this moment.

[Especially when the evening has clearly been an emotional one.]

And, more to the point, this is Wonderland. Unless one of these threats to you arrives here, you're relatively safe for now.

I know. I keep trying to remember that, but it's pretty hard to separate the two.

[ She sighs, putting her face in her hands. ]

Things were going so well, Freya. I should have expected something like this would happen and screw it all up.

In my experience, the quiet never lasts for too long. But just because you've hit a bump in the road doesn't automatically mean you have to stop.

[Not if that isn't what she wants. But at the same time, this is Chloe's free will being questioned, and it's simply more than a minor bump.]

But no one would blame you for taking a minute to think things through either.

The thing is, I don't feel like I can take a minute. Normally I've never had an issue separating myself from Lucifer when the drama gets too much to deal with, or he's not talking to me, but I feel like if I do it now, when he's finally opening up to me, he's just going to take it as me turning my back on him and he'll just shut down again.

[ She couldn't even bear to leave him for the night, even though part of her knew it probably would have been better for them both to step away. Chloe thought she had forgiven him for leaving her when she almost died but the truth was, she hadn't completely. Knowing how it felt made it more important to her to than ever to make sure he knew she wasn't going anywhere. ]

I think we worked out that we're not going to break up. At least for now. I don't want to break up, anyway, but his issues with his dad makes everything so much harder.

When we spoke earlier this evening, he seemed to sense that you would need space. That you would need this.

[She gestures to the space between them meaning that Chloe would need to confide in someone else to talk this through. She isn't sure where in the process of this their conversation was, but she feels like Chloe should know that he wasn't just speaking of his own needs.]

I think he understands more than you realize, and taking time with something like this can be important. If your relationship is on solid ground, then a little room to breathe won't hurt anything.

[ She lifts her eyebrows. It's an oddly perceptive thing for Lucifer to mention. He's been better about noticing Chloe's needs in Wonderland than he ever has been at home, but it's still a process for them. ]

I guess... I'm not sure our relationship is on solid ground. Not now, anyway.
