[ elena manages to shake her head with a small smile of her own. she's so attuned to the emotions and reactions of others; the tension practically radiates into her. she motions to the seat across from them and releases the sharp breath she'd been holding. ]

Not at all. We got here a couple of minutes ago.

[ it's only a small pause later that she adds: ] Thank you. For agreeing to meet with us.

[ elena, ever the diplomat. ]

[ there's a bratty comeback on the tip of bonnie's tongue that gets bitten back in the space of a deep breath. she trusts freya-- or, she did. and she knows very well the fact that relation to a monster doesn't a monster make. ]

So... this is officially super awkward.

[ ok bonnie it wasn't bad until you decided to say that but at least it's more neutral than the other thing you were gonna say. bravo. ]

[She smirks a bit at that, before leaning back in her seat casually, hands resting on her lap in front of her.]

The subject of Klaus does do that on occasion. But I'd like to be able to clear up anything I can, if it helps keep things ... cooperative here.

It's what we want, too. We all have enough to worry about. [ wonderland's antics keep them busy, and the mirrors legitimately freak elena out. they need to find a way home, not start an endless and unnecessary war. it's a slippery slope, but elena deftly avoids those if she can. ]

Especially if it's ... true. That Klaus ends up leaving.

[ there's skepticism there. it's hard for elena to process. ]

[ bonnie nods in support of elena's opening prompt. she thinks she'd rather let freya say what she wants before seeing what specific questions she'll answer.

especially because she can wait until a later time to ask. witchy stuff can wait. ]

[ elena sneaks a glance in bonnie's direction. assessing. ]

You mentioned unlike you, none of your siblings were able to escape being turned into monsters. [ all she knows are the bits and pieces elijah once gave her. freya is a witch, that much she knows, but how is she not a vampire?

she can't be both. no, tvd. you can't be both!! ]

[ the conversation take over, dulling bonnie's fear and worry. she wants to believe, but it doesn't make her feel better about it. ]

You don't-- [ uhhh what word is right? ] You don't feel like a vampire.

[ let's start ruling out definitions of monster. ]

[That isn't actually what she meant, though Elena's misinterpretation is understandable - after all, the definition of monster is a rather loose one. But the question she's actually asked is a factual one, and that she can answer.]

Because I'm not one. I was taken from my family when I was four years-old and was raised by my aunt, who was a more powerful witch than my mother.

[ elena's expression softens. empathy powers, activate. ]

I'm guessing that wasn't the blessing in disguise one would think. [ freya might not have become a vampire, but family is family. being away from them and with her more powerful aunt instead likely came with its own setbacks. ]

[ so pretty much witches always getting the shaft is confirmed. cool. ]

So, wait. How are you...?

[ insert hand waving at freya here. bc bonnie's never been the most studious of high schoolers but her math isn't that bad. what's fishy, here? ]

[She is a ball of confusion, that is for sure.]

My aunt did not want my mother to marry my father. He was a Viking, a person who persecuted them for their magic in Norway. My mother went against Dahlia's wishes, but when my mother and father were first married, they had a difficult time conceiving. Dahlia was better at magic than she was, so Esther went back to her to make a deal. Dahlia would help her have children, but in return, Dahlia would receive the first child from every generation born.

[Hence, why Freya was taken when she was four years old.]

When my mother turned my siblings into vampires, granted them immortality, my aunt was enraged. She had already linked our magic when was a child, but she couldn't surpass the limits of life, not in the same way, and now she would have no more power to draw from. So she decided to buy herself time in a different way. She cast a spell on the both of us which would amplify our power beyond imagining, but in return, we would sleep for a hundred years, and awaken for one year of life. She presumed it would buy her time to get around the consequences.

[ to say that elena is stunned would be an understatement. elena knows very little about freya's parents, mostly what elijah chose to confide in her. she knows about the affair with the werewolf, and she knows how that wreaked its own devastating consequences. she listens, rapt, lips parting by the time freya is done. ]

And did it? Buy her time, I mean.

[ freya is here, alive and well, so she imagines something went right ... ]

[ bonnie just listens again. thoughts of mothers that let their children go with ease, vikings persecuting witches, and freya's "immortality" threaten to send her running, but she remains, unblinking. are those the experiences that built this woman sitting in front of them? someone cheated of her life even as it was extended?

do witches always get the shaft? ]

[Yep. Pretty much, Bonnie, unfortunately.]

In a way, yes. She needed me to have a child of my own, but I ... thwarted her, in that respect. I wouldn't allow a child of mine to grow up as I had.

[She was very, very adamant about that fact and will pause for a moment to sip her coffee and give herself a chance to compose herself in continue.]

She ended up needing to wait a thousand years for my brother to have a daughter instead.

[Yep. Enjoy that little info bomb. WAIT TILL YOU FIND OUT WHICH BROTHER. =D]

elena blinks. and then blinks some more. ]

I'm confused.

[ all of freya's siblings are vampires. they've just finished clearing up why she isn't, but the rest of them are. and yes, there's a hybrid in the mix, but that still doesn't mean ... it's impossible, right?

[ yeah bonnie's gonna just break out her jumping to conclusions mat. ]

[She laughs, before shaking her head.]

No. Hope is Klaus' daughter.

[She pauses because she doesn't really know how to explain this because ... well, it's really hard to explain.]

Being a hybrid, my brother is a creature that shouldn't exist. He is allowed the benefits and the detriments of both of his natures, and while vampires cannot procreate, werewolves can.
