[ he said he wouldn't. to caroline, he said he would stand back and let his poison eat her alive, should she not reconsider terms. the question causes him to blink, his lips to part; he won't lie to his sister. for one, she knows him better than that. for another, he knows what she wants him to say. [ he doesn't want to dictate how she grieves, but he knows that he is. whether it is justified or not is another matter; he will not claim absolute confidence in his actions. for those, right or wrong, he is not proud. he knows what he's done: fighting her violence with violence. betraying her trust.

klaus' jaw works at his unspoken feeling. he replies with the only certainty he knows, not only for caroline but for all their security and safety.
] Because letting her kill innocent people and attempting to murder her friend will improve upon the situation.

[ he turns from freya, grabs an armchair and spins it around to face the bed. he sits, looks at caroline's placid expression, peaceful if not for the breath taken from her lungs.

his voice softens. he doesn't know if he is right or if this will help at all. what he only knows is:
] She wouldn't forgive herself. I doubt she would now.
